Anyone with personal experience of a professional person that that they can recommend who can service and repair an antique cuckoo clock? I am in Sasolburg, but I am willing to travel to the JHB/PTA/East-/West Rand area if necessary.

My wife got one that was her mother's, who in turn got it from her father (my wife's grandfather). This clock probably is about 70+ years old. The clock is running, but the "cuckoo" sound isn't working anymore. The bellows on the whistles inside the clock has perished with age and the cuckoo bird comes out only about halfway. Also, the clock face is missing a few numbers as can be seen in the photos below.

We would like to have this cuckoo clock professionally serviced and repaired.

Are you really going to be winding that thing up every day and enjoying the cuckoo horn blaring on the hour?
Just leave it as it is on the wall because that's exactly how it's going to look six months after being repaired so you may as well save yourself the cost and bother.

Do these things go off 24/7 or is there a way to silence them at night? Is there a loud ticking the whole time?

Announcing the hour each hour and a quick once-off "cuckoo" on the half-hour. Fairly loud ticking. But, if you do not wind the right-hand chain, the mechanical movement for the "cuckoo" sound will not work.
