CUPS compability with USB to RS232 converters

Anyone got a RS232 printer working with one of these using CUPS (Epson TM-L60II in this case)?

... printer works fine with a standard RS232 onboard port but this is a cheaper solution than a PCI-E addon card.

I use one of those for all my generator programming since the older panels only use RS232 ports.

Can't remember the brand but it works fine as long as you have the right driver. On Win7 I sometimes get BSOD on my Dell due to drive issues when the RS232 side is plugged in. Works fine on my HP with Win7.

Reckon the only way to be sure is to bite the bullet and buy one, this system I'm currently on has no physical parallel or comm ports but:



Tried to post a /dev list of ttyS & ttylp entries (four of each) but cloudflare got on my case and blocked me!

Your issue is not so much the printer, its actually whether Linux supports the chip used in the USB-RS232 jobbie.
In general the al-cheapo ones sold at Matrix and elsewhere are best avoided. Trendnet and other expensive ones sold at IC work well.
