what is a windows crack ?

if i have to guess i would say it's a programme to bypass the windows product key ? am i right ?

just saw it on a torrent and wanted to know what it was

so if i'm right a user can simple install xp or whatever and press next when asked for a key (to give the user 30 days trial access) but once the OS is installed the user then installs the crack file and the OS won't ask for an authority on the key ? am i right or close ?

oh i see, so this is after you entered a key but allows you to turn on automatic updates and such without fear of microsoft recognizing your key as "used" or "fake"
