US1 = 7.50017

Euro = 10.0454

Pound = 14.8384

Seems to happen every year or so. :(

Is there a local site that has a comprehensive list of exchange rates of ZAR vs other currencies? Capped, I am. Candian$ vs ZAR?

:( Just as I am about to move over seas..... Spanner in the works. Hopefully it sorts itself before October!

scuze me for pointing out my obvious ignorance.... I heard on the news lastnite they say the Rand dropped against the dollar coz of uncertainties regardng some issues in the US (US homeloan 'thing' me listening with hafa ear)
me don't get it... if there are probs in US, why other currencies become weaker/dollar stronger.... shouldn't problems/uncertainties in US make the dollar weaker, i.e. other (our) currency stronger?
(spose thats what I get for not paying attention in economics class :sick:)

The short answer is:

Problems in the states means international investors have become wary of risky investments. South africa is seen as a "risky" investment. Hence international investors pull their monies and the rand weakens.

Pretty much all developing countries receive lashes when the major economies wobble.

If you check the indicators you will see the whole world is going nuts at the moment, it should settle down soon enough though..

when the US sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold...

getting a little stronger towards the end of the day.

Hopefully things will level out, but with int'l markets on the jitters, this might be the early stages of a long-road of difficult times ahead for many.

Amazing thing is the dollar this time is not as high as last time, but the pound is back up to 14.5o :eek:
