Ok, just started this thread to find out if there are actual people that think curved TVs are great.

I personally think they stink, and would be very disappointed if I paid for one. I bought a flat panel for just under R15000 at game with 4k res the works and cant say "I wish I bought a curved model".

This guy thinks so too cnet/

Would just like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

WHAT? Myboom! You don't have the latest, greatest technical gadget?? Well you are obviously failing as a human ! ~sarcasm~

It's a consumer thing. They have to come up with new innovative / gimmicks to keep consumers interested and spending cash.

True, after a couple of years an upgrade to a new system, whether it be a TV, cellphone,tablet or whatever, will actually feel new and innovative.
These year on year tiny increments are just not big enough to truly make a difference.

It doesn't really matter, the brainwashing is working, people just HAVE to have the latest product available !

My old telefunken tv from the 80's had a curved screen :p

i think its a gimmick. However if Imax is an indication of leading technologies for movies, and they have a curved screen then maybe it could be something to think about.

For now - the regular flat screens will suffice.

curved the wrong way! Away from you - must be towards you............LOL

It is a gimmick to impress other people that are also stupid and uninformed. Flat panel looks better against the wall anyway.

Curved tv's are stupid, so nobody who sits in front of it can see the entire picture. Stupid.

Curved pc monitors, now that i can see myself buying

Personally, curved and 3D tvs are a gimmick.

Sony TV, were the only brand not to release curved TVs this year at CES 2015.

4K and HD is what you should be looking for.

gimmick; like a basic cellphone with a color screen;

no camera or MMS capability; but a color screen;

people got to buy the latest greatest thing; and this is as idiotic as they come.

Disagree with that...4k brings a tangible improvement to the viewing experience. The challenge of feeding a TV the quantity of data required to support a 4k picture doesn't make 4k a gimmick...just a challenge.

Say if I lived in Parkhurst with fibre to my house and money wasn't an issue, I would have a 4k TV in a heartbeat. Know what I wouldn't have? A curved 4k TV.

That depends on the size of your TV and/or how far away you sit. Most people own relatively small TVs and/or sit outside the range of perceivable difference. I'm not debating that there won't be a perceivable difference on massive 60"+ TVs and/or if there are close viewing distances.

The only time I could imagine it being useful is if I had like 200 of them setup in a circle and a few sets high.

Agreed. So it's not a gimmick if you're rich enough to afford a relatively large screen for a relatively close viewing distance.

Whereas curved is a gimmick unless it's a monitor.

Agreed. It is "mostly" a gimmick as it won't apply to the vast majority of TV purchases.

Fully agree, could be really awesome in games especially if the games are written to take advantage of the curved screen.
