Custom downloaded/ purchased maps and xbox live .

What happens if you download custom maps , does it get included in the random map selection or do you have to manually create a game leave it public and pray that someone downloaded the same maps as you ?

A bit of both. It depends on the game, but normally the developer overseeing the multiplayer mode will create a separate playlist specifically for new DLC maps, and after a while, try and incorporate it into the regular playlists. After incorporating it into the normal playlists, some games will just skip the map unless everyone has it (i.e. Halo), or those people without the DLC map will be kicked from the lobby (i.e. Call of Duty).
