I stumbled across something, which lead me to check something out, and I found that with a cannon point and shoot camera you can easily use custom firmware on your camera that will allow you to shoot in raw etc.

My question is, seeing that I can find no answer in google, can the same be done with sony point and shoot cameras?

Theoretically, yes, but there isn't a project for it. I would love to enable RAW on my DSC-T100. I know the lens is sharp enough even at 8MP, but quality JPEGs it renders deteriorates as soon as the light is not perfect anymore. And seeing as I lost my charger, and a replacement costs about the a third of the price of a new semi-decent P&S, and since I have no more 40D, I might just drop the money on a G9 or G10.

why do you want to do that?

Why not? Just saw that you can do it with cannons so why not sony's?
Then I could shoot in the much hyped about RAW, have minute long exposures instead of 2 seconds, set white balance etc without having to cough up for a DSLR (which I know would still be far better but it would be an improvement).

oh, I see - your cam can only go up to 2sec (not good for night photos)
