I'm going to share my story with you on how to beat the behemoth Telkom when it comes to cancelling your DSL.
As a paying customer I am entitled to cancel my DSL service if i want to. Smart asses keep your comments to yourself, the only paper you sign is the one for installation when it comes to Telkom, nothing about Terms and conditions. You agree to pay over the phone, you dont pay, you get disconnected, it doesnt take them 30 days to disconnect
On the 31st August after some shocking Telkom service decided to cancel my DSL line, after being bounced around for an entire day between accounts and tech support i gave up. Now, knowing Telkom would bill me for september I kept all names, messages left and times in dealing with Telkom.
Monday morning I phoned again to have someone tell me I am NOT allowed to cancel my DSL line unless i am paid in full, so.........I thought, **** you I can cancel this if i want, why....because I say so. After 10 minutes of argueing I was put through to a line manager and promptly cut off, determined not to let Telkom have the better I phoned back, this time i managed to get someone who was very helpful.
They cancelled both my DSL line and Telephone line, without the usual, We are telkom, you MUST fax us and sign it rubbish, i ordered it over the phone, i'll damn well cancel it over the phone if i want to as well....no one tells me what to do. At the same time both DSL home accounts were cancelled.
After this i then contacted Telkom accounts and told them in no uncertain terms will i be paying for September as i wanted it cancelled on the 31st august. They agreed after much fighting........whether or not i'll actually get the credit is another story.
Moral of the story, dont give up with Telkom, dont let THEM dictate to you the terms of the service, you are the customer and you are right....always!
So......
1. You can cancel when you want, **** 30 day notice period....shove it.
2. You dont have to fax through anything, to request new services you do
it over the phone so Telkom **** you to when it comes to that.
