Customisable GUI (Android tablet)

I've never Android on a phone or anything - but looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 shortly.

That home screen that I always see ... how customisable is that?
Could I have a share price/currency constantly showing and refreshing without the need to click something?

Definitely - it's android, so it's as customisable as you're going to get. I have a gingerbread phone, and I've played with tons of different rom/themes/launchers and even loaded full PC ubuntu on it, which you don't need to reboot into, it launches in a VM as an app on top of android..
