Cutting down latency...

Hey there...

I'm having an issue with latency when playing WoW over my 384k ADSL line... now when I was on iBurst, I was getting a latencty of between 500 and 600... now that I've switched over to ADSL it's sitting between 600 and 1500...

I thought ADSL was supposed to be faster????

Anyways, I'm connecting to the Auchidoun realm in Dusseldorf.... would it make any tangible difference if I switched to a realm closer to where the fibre cable hits europe? My data is coming in over seacom and the seacom cable lands in Marseille, France... so I'm guessing a server in Paris will be better than a server in Germany...

WOW that's slow! I am getting like 350 on a 4Mb... I don't think there is a way of cutting it down, except for maybe playing on local severs?

Do you have a shaped or unshaped account? if its unshaped you should be seeing some beter latency especialy with the latency fix for wow http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13581-LeatrixLatencyFix.html

Ok this might be a facepalm moment, but how do I know if I am shaped, becuase I can't see at my usage tracker or on modem settings, only my speed and all the technical stuffs?

You won't see the account type in your router settings. You'll have to tell us which account you have (incl the ISP name of course) <- if you can't find the information yourself.
Odds are that your account is shaped, since most unshaped accounts are explicitly mentioned.

Sounds like you're playing on international servers.... Bad idea.

Fragtion, there aren't any official WoW servers hosted locally...
...for that reason its advised to get unshaped accounts for international gaming.

I'm on Sainet's uncapped 384k ADSL package at the moment and they haven't mentioned anything about shaping...

And yeah, I'd go local if WoW actually decided to put up a realm server... but yeah, I somehow doubt that would happen...

But I'll give that latency fix a try.... thanks peoples...

Ok, I tried the latency trick.... looks like it kinda worked.... Latency was under 400 for a good few minutes and then shot up over 700 and refused to budge.... Sainet apparently has some changes in the works, so maybe that will help eventually...
