Hi there,

I am going to start my first cutting (calorie deficit) period next year. Anyone got some tips for me? How to start?

Step 1 - gene therapy.

I’ve been cut since birth, easy peasy.

Good luck.

It is mentally tough and requires lots and lots of discipline depending on your goals.

My only advice would be to find what works for YOU.

In my case it is Keto and Intermittent Fasting. Going off either of those lead to week long cheat meals for me before kicking myself about self-sabotage and then jumping back onto the Keto/IF wagon where I quickly see results again.

Yup intermittent fasting

Salmonella. Even after your body fast-tracks the junk food out of your system from both ends, you'll be nauseous and unable to eat for a few days.

I was thinking of trying the 16/8 method..

It is the easiest one to follow especially if you still try and keep the intensity up in the gym.

I've done a few 23/1 and once tried a 48hr fast while still trying to work out at the same volume intensity as always. That did not go too well.

Currently I am doing a 18/6 version which has been the golden ratio for me in terms of hunger and work outs.

But again. Find what works for you. We all have different scenarios which include metabolism, work, work out, stress, etc....

Personally I've started with 18/ 6 . Now depending on the my mood I either do 20 or 24 hours. With 18 hours now is my break day. Expect more gains when you start to cut down on carbs and increase fat consumption. This is actually increase testosterone levels

Burn more than you put in. Once I go over about 600 calorie deficit I start to feel it, any more and I absolutely struggle.
You can start to lose muscle at the same time so just need to be careful
