So, please excuse the total noob here. i want to install cyanogenmod on my Galaxy S4 mini. where is the best place to get information regarding this, as there are so many sites with information.

on CM site it lists these 2 : 3G and Intl

thanks

Best place for info is XDA - search there. And you should get the version that is suited for your phone. It might be the international version, but ask on the CM forums or XDA if you are not sure

thanks will have a look

Quick Goolge search showed the following : Wiki Link,XDA link,Cyanogenmod Official link,

in my opinion XDA is very helpful with information.Cyanogenmod have an app that automates the installation as well.

automated install not supported on S4 Mini :(

So I am digging up this old thread. What ROM did you install? I recently installed Cynogen 11.0 with 4.4.4 on my S3 mini. It works really well except for one core function. Mobile data on my network. This works for +- an hour and then reports no network. Clearly the RIL is buggy. Currently I am trying to see if there is any way I can fix this because my phone feels like a brand new phone.

Did you manage to flash your S4 mini?

Hi

I also have an S4 Mini I9190 and have been reading about installing custom ROMS on it for a while now. I have the phone for a year now and I am bored with it and want to try something new.

Im interested in installimg CM 10.2 because it is the latest stable CM Rom. The only thing is Im scared that I screw up the installation process as I dont have money to buy a new phone, and also my work relies on my cellphone so I need it to be reliable without any bugs.

Any advice?

Thanks

If you can get through the installation of the Recovery via Odin then you should be fine. If you stuff up the recovery you may well be left with a bricked phone. Once you have that you can nandroid back up so even if you mess up installation of the rom/kernel/end up in boot loop (soft brick) you can still revert back to your nandroid back up via recovery.

So there's really not a big chance to stuff up?

Oh ja, forgot to say I have already rooted my phone. Just scared I stuff up my phone with installing CM.

How reliable is CM? I cant miss calls / sms due to my job.

Not really no. Just read your relevant xda forum properly a few times, follow the steps to flash and you should be fine. Even if you run into problems, chances are someone else had it before you and the solution is there.

What was it like when you flashed your phone the first time?

Eish, I first rooted and flashed a custom rom on my HTC One X. At the time HTC had locked bootloaders. That meant everytime I flashed a custom rom I had to flash the kernel via fastboot (DOS). It was daunting and a shelp.

Now with my Note 3 this is so easy once you have the rom. Just go to recovery wipe and install. :D

In terms of stability and reliability it is dependant on the dev and their rom. CM11.2 has been around for a while now so it should be fine. I'm on CM12 5.0.2 and its already being fine tuned.

Make the nandroid back up and if you dont like CM then you can just flash you nandroid and it will be like you never changed. Also, if you're sure about anything use YouTube, learnt a lot from there about flashing and rooting and they can explain better than me with visual aid.
