Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer monetization

“As far as the monetisation of multiplayer for Cyberpunk is concerned, we believe right now it’s definitely too early to share any details on that or give guidance; the project is in a relatively early stage. We keep experimenting – that’s our first multiplayer game. We check various options and possibilities, and it’s definitely not the time to point you to a specific direction on that. Of course you can expect that we won’t change our general policy towards ‘deals with gamers’ so I expect wise monetisation and – always – value for money.”

I believe this game is being knocked. The above-quoted is the exact message posted by the developer. There are people who don't want to see this game do well, or succeed. ****ing trolls.

Just to let people know. Current Cyberpunk 2077 owners purchased a single-player game.

Exactly.

Hosting and comms for multiple servers is not cheap so money needs to come from somewhere.

If Bethesda had made a decent game out of FallOut76 I would be happy to pay a subscription (eg. Eve Online) but not for that crapshoot!

The problem with 'these' multiplayer games in general in regard to monetisation is the bloody booster mechanics. Booster packs destroy user experiences. Close to the entire mobile gaming industry is build on booster mechanics, and due to its success in mobile gaming the developers and publishers are bringing it to PC and console gaming. Assassins Creed also now have booster mechanics, Ubi...

Fallout 76 would have been in a good place say it had been a more complete game, but due to the disaster it turned out to be people also criticised the cosmetic pricing. You can earn in-game points to purchase those cosmetics. Then Bethesda made it worse, they increased the cosmetic pricing and they introduced booster mechanics. It is a schithole.

Yeah, pay to win etc.
W3 is considered the best game of all time by many, and it has zero multiplayer. AFAIK cyberpunk is also a single player focused game. with multiplayer maybe as a bonus.
Think of GTA5, I don't think many people have much of a problem with GTA Online's monitisation, because that was not the core focus. In the other hand.. people were rightfully pissed off about battlefront 2.
Or Diablo 3, when it launched it was a disaster with the pay to win bullshit... They changed that to barely noticeable cosmetic stuff and now the monitisation keeps the servers running with regular updates, seasons and balancing changes to keep things interesting.
Borderlands is also an example on how to do monetisation right. Betheshda and EA are disconnected and people quickly call them out of their bullshit, I still think CDR might be one of the good guys... but time will tell.

There have been quite a loud protest to a lot of GTA V's microtransactions actually.
GTA V multiplayer exists to make as much money as possible.
