Quick question - is there an easy way to tell if the reason you can't access the net is because the account is locked to a specific phone line (which isn't the one you're using)? On cybersmart?

I'm trying to troubleshoot someone's laptop for them, but they're with cybersmart so I suspect their account will only work on their line, whereas I'm trying to troubleshoot on my line and I can't access anything at all.

Yes, with Cybersmart the account is locked to your line, you can just call them and ask them to transfer it to your line, and then transfer it back to the other persons line when you done. 086 100 fast

What form of troubleshooting would require you to switch DSL lines?

If you can't access the net, but your router blinks on and the ADSL light goes solid, it means you connected to the exchange just fine (which also means the account is either linelocked and you're on the right line, or it's unlocked).

If it's a newish account, you can probably check the logs at http://cybersmart.co.za/logs.cgi - somewhere near the beginning there should be an entry letting you know which line the account was locked to.

Or you could call cybersmart and be put on hold, heh.
