Since Saturday afternoon pppoe session on Openserve was not authenticating. The website was down since Saturday afternoon and for most of Sunday.

I just received an email explaining that they suffered a large ddos attack. :oops:
 
Dear Valued Customer,
As you may be aware the Cybersmart Network experienced intermittent connectivity this past weekend .

Our Network experienced a large scale DDos attack which started on Saturday the 19th of October at approximately 16:00pm. During this period, some of you would have experienced intermittent connectivity on both local and international traffic. Our Support Desk was also affected during this time, making it difficult to reach.

Our Engineers were onsite immediately and with the assistance of our international providers, identified the issue and began implementing procedures to mitigate against the attack .

This initial attack was resolved at approximately 21:00pm on Saturday evening and our engineers continued to investigate the source of the attack and implement further security measures on our network.

At 07:00am on Sunday the 20th of October 2019, the DDoS attack was again initiated against our network, which again caused large scale int ermittent connectivity on some services. Additional security measures were put in place and our Network began to show improvements throughout the day, however we were only able to fully resolve the issue by 23:00pm.

Our Engineers and Technicians continue to work tirelessly to ensure that no further loss of services are experienced. We are still monitoring the situation closely with our international partners.

There has been a significant increase in DDos attacks on South African ISP’s over the past few weeks. We continue to work hard to mitigate against these types of attacks, as well as reduce our response time in these scenarios.
