So we cancelled our Mweb 4mbps after being with them for a few years. Gave our months notice and all that.

On the first we signed up for Cybersmart 10mbps uncapped. (Our line syncs perfectly at 10mbps)

Thought going to a better ranked ISP (#4 on a recent article) and upgrading to 10mbps would mean a better experience.

Never have I been more wrong.

YouTube on my SmartTV barely loads.
I can't stream Apple Music (Works perfectly on my grandfather's 2mbps telkomsa account)
Pings are disgusting. (±15ms on Mweb vs 80ms on Cybersmart)
DNS Errors are frequent.
My dad and brother are constantly complaining about my bad decision on moving ISP's since I "downgraded" our internet.

So after 5 days, I emailed Cybersmart and told them I'm cancelling.

Thankfully I haven't physically signed anything nor sent them my documents - hope I can get away from them asap. I'd be willing to pay pro rata for bad internet we've had these past few days - but not a chance that I will use this for the rest of the month.

Just thought I'd share my experience.

What I also don't quite understand.. They claim they are throttling P2P - Fair enough, throttle as much as you want to - I rarely use torrents... but oh my word, when I wanted to update OSX on my macbook to El Capitan yesterday from the real completely legit APP STORE, it showed it's gonna take 30 hours to download 6gigs (it dropped down to 24 hours after an hour it still make).. Makes absolutely no sense!

While I prefer to use local DNS servers (gives you access to locally cached content and stuff), I'm currently using Google DNS as it's actually more responsive... but yeah, their DNS is useless.

Google DNS 8.8.8.8 is multi-region local

Lol. Sorry, had to.

Many negative remarks, ranks, etc. about MWEB are because of the abusers who were put in their place by MWEB and still have sour grapes. These people are ignorant about MWEB in relation to other uncapped ISP accounts and their own AUPs, thresholds, shaping, etc. These people also have no idea about what bandwidth quality is, and how to many people it is much more important than bandwidth quantity.

I think you know what to do, OP.

Afrihost business uncapped, yes it costs a pretty penny but you get what you pay for.

abusers on uncapped??? there should not be such a thing as uncapped means use as much as you can yet when you use 200gb they cancel your account. thats ridiculous!

my lines are with cybersmart since 2006 without any problems, but i dont use their data on a daily basis. use them as a backup account and i'm happy. currently got endless problems with vox

Uncapped does not mean use as much as you can. How could it? Reality check!

They don't cancel accounts ever... They throttle the accounts in the ups/aup according to whether you pay for shaping or not I'm on afrihost business for that reason they never shape the connection

in 2012/3 mweb canceled several hundred accounts including mine (4mb uncapped account) and several of my employees and friends for "excessive use"... there had been huge unhappiness all over mybb and other forums at the time.

cant say i've missed them and they saved me a months cancellation period...

206gb to be exactly while a 4mb account can do around 1tb in a month so i would not say that had been excessive nor abuse :(

You're lying. The only accounts MWEB ever 'cancelled' were those who used VPNs etc. to bypass shaping.

200GB... You'd have been shaped/throttled before then with numerous other ISPs. Irony right there.

actually you're mistaken. only used rapidgator and uploaded and idm as the download manager. i did not use a vpn back then.

complained to icasa and asa. they combined all the complaints and a single finding had been made that mweb had been within their rights. guess they paid for some holidays etc.

and 200gb actually a drop in the ocean, definitely not abuse as you cry so often on an uncapped line.

their email clearly stated that my service had been ended due to excessive use (206gb)

MWEB do not cancel the accounts of those who go over the AUP/threshold. They throttle the accounts.

Something else led to your account being cancelled, you must have transgressed in another way besides usage. Perhaps regular overuse? Which would also be strange.
