OK, so I was wrong to assume the port got disconnected.

When I got back this afternoon from my flying lesson (which calmed me down and made me think rationally) I decided to investigate what is exactly going on here.

So I get out my old dusty Cybersmart router, and the darn thing SYNCHS! Hmmm... WTF???

Despite the packet loss, I can actually retrieve my e-mail. Now the packet loss could be the Cybersmart modem, I replaced it because the lightning got hold of it some months back.

Hmmm... so I keep trying to get the Cisco router to connect, it doesn't want to know a thing. So, let's open the beast...

And right there, is when I see the modem chipset, has got a HOLE BLOWN INTO IT... So guess what, write off! Brand new router is in sy moer in. Someone or something blew my router up.

It wasn't lightning because the moment it went down there was sun shining here, the weather only came later that night after I had already unplugged everything.

I am going to try and do a warranty claim tomorrow on the router. Note to self- wipe login and passwords from that router NOW.

I would like to apologize publicly for accusing Cybersmart of disconnecting the ADSL, unfortunately I had no way to check, however my gripe about customer service still stands.

I am truly sorry, but, you need to understand, I am not even supposed to open the router, had I not, I would not known the truth. I put the tamperproof label back nicely, just need to exchange it tomorrow.

This, with the broken router:

I consider the Telkom line successfully resolved and error-free. This is when the power came back on on Saturday morning, there's been no line errors since... more than 24 hours later and this in bad weather.

Now if Cybersmart can reinstate the 4096kbit line speed I am paying for I would be greatful.

And this is with a router that has a blown Ethernet port which causes all the working ports to drop packets.
