I had R50 due this month to be taken off. They tried to debit order but it didn't work. ( I know for a fact that their is at least R50 in my account)

Now they charge me another R50 because it failed???

It's not my fault it didn't work.

I don't have R100 in my account, and I don't want to pay the R50 either.

Is this the norm charging a customer double what they owe because for some reason the debit order didn't go off?

There is a certain minimum amount on your card you have to keep as reserve, if your total balance less the payment comes to less than this reserve, the debit order will fail. This is your fault, thus making you liable for the additional charges.
