D-Link DSL-2640U - DSL sync light DEAD

I have the above router, and recently reset it to factory default settings. Now the sync light won't come on at all.

From what I see in the manual it should at least be flashing to indicate it's TRYING to sync, but it's not doing anything.

I've seen similar posts around the net with D-Link problems, but no useful answers.

And D-Link's "support lines open till 9pm" is a load of rubbish.

Anyone got any insights here?

I have the same router and haven't had any noteworthy problems with it and don't know what might help.

Though I have to say D-Link support is a joke, nonexistent would be an improvement. If you expect any support from products you buy it's best to completely avoid D-Link.

I also have the router - thats why I asked if his problem was resolved.

[hijack]Browser--> are you able to host an FTP server with this particular router?? If so, which settings are you using? I've tried and failed in the past[/hijack]

you biscuits, i bet you havent entered all the info related to your ISP. the dlink routers require you to enter just about everything manually. run the cd that came with the router to get the configuration wizard to guide you. and rather dont reset the router without reason.

hope that helps.

No solution yet. Phoned D-Link and they said there must be something wrong with it, so it's been sent in to be checked out.

I highly regret resetting the router to default settings, because like reactor_sa says, it's not very easy to set up from scratch!

Did you find a solution? I'm in the same boat with a new self-install.

Essentially only a few things are required:
ATM VPI=8
ATM VCI=35
ATM Service Category=UBR
ATM Encapsulation=PPPoE LLC
MTU & MRU=1492
MSS=1432
Authentication=Auto

how do you get this router to linesync. It is is not a linefault because my old linksys router syncs on the line.

I tried the above setting without any luck.
My Diagnostics brings up the following: (any suggestions?)

Test the connection to your local network Test your ENET(1-3) Connection: FAIL
Test your ENET4 Connection: PASS
Test your Wireless Connection: PASS

Test the connection to your DSL service provider Test ADSL Synchronization: PASS
Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: F4/F5 FAIL
Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: F5 FAIL

Test the connection to your Internet service provider Test PPP server connection: PASS
Test authentication with ISP: PASS
Test the assigned IP address: PASS
Ping default gateway: PASS
Ping primary Domain Name Server: FAIL

Ok, so now I can connect. Here's how.

Phoned Telkom tech help and went for technical support and NOT self install support.

Was directed to www.telkom.co.za/verify added the details required there, and was online....
