Hi

I installed Vista last night only to find that I couldnt get the damn thing to get onto the net via my D-Link 300T (One of those adsl modems that connect to the pc via its 1 and only network port.) The modem has a built-in dhcp server which auto-assigned all the ip's to the pc without a prob, except vista still couldnt get on the net.I also tried turning off the modem's dhcp server and manually set the pc's IP to 192.168.1.2 and the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 (modem's ip). This still didnt work either.

Both of these methods above worked on xp without a prob.

Some extra info:
When I use the modem's dhcp server to assign the pc's ip's, the pc is then unable to see or ping the modem. But when i manually assign the ip's (pc ip and default gateway) to the pc, the pc is able to ping and see the modem.

Also, I noticed when dhcp is enabled it sets the default gateway of the pc to the saix adsl ip. Is this correct?

I struggled with this for hours last night without any joy and am totally out of ideas. Please, any suggestions would be appreciated!! :)

Are you running it in bridge mode or router mode?

Bear in mind that the DHCP on the 300T can allocate *one* IP address only.

I connected to mie by setting fixed IP address/DNS/gateway on the PC; my 300T came with the DHCP disabled by default, for some reason.

No its not running in bridge mode, so it must be running in "router mode" as you say. Before I would just have my pc's default gateway set the modem's ip and it was happy, no dialing up, just turn on the pc and you were on the net.

Are you running Vista as well?

No, I run my 300T in bridge mode connected to a 724P+ broadband router. I had to get connected to it originally, so I had it in router mode then.
