Who's got a D-Link DIR-451 router, and attempted firmware update?
I had v1.01 on (Mar 2007), with no South African service providers in the list... so I figured, hmm, lets update the firmware, then perhaps it will have the new HSUPA modems also in the list of modems.
Generally I avoid firmware updates like the the plague... too many bad stories of firmware update going potty, leaving the hardware useless.
So I got the v1.02 firmware file from D-Link SA site.
Started the upgrade process...
Router restarts... and keeps restarting
Could not connect at all, LAN or wireless. Not even pressing the reset button makes a diff.
Eventually I tried keeping the reset button pressed while pulling the power and replugging.
Then, when I try log in via http://192.168.0.1 it comes up, says locate firmware file, so can browse to it... I browse to the 1.02 file, and send.... it counts down from 260, and when it reaches 0... restarts... and keeps restarting again
Started to figure the thing is now bricked.
In frustration today I logged into the Taiwan D-link FTP site, and got firmware version 1.03.
Reset+restarted router again, counted down....restarted.
Wow... the router starts up, seems to work again, even with the settings as it was before the update.
New version has many more options, including choose 3G Prefered/3G Only which wasnt in the old version.
Jeesh .... was worried there! Has anybody else had same problem using the SA version, or is the SA version .... well... typical South African :D
Anyways.... just thought I'd share my experience, incase somebody else wants to upgrade their router and gets the router to misbehave like that.
