D-Link DSL-2640U No power ?

SO I came down stairs this morning and my router a D-Link DSL-2640U doesn't have any lights on what so ever, so I wiggled the wire all over the place switched it on and off and still nothing no lights what so ever? is this a common issue? is this possible? :/

Don't have voltmeter meh owell bought it in November 2010 so lasted me just under 2 years.

Just found out the 2640u has a 1 year warranty, owell so I've got 3 2nd hand hard drives for sale, any takers?

I had exactly the same thing happen with exactly the same router (out of warranty of course). I've now decided never to buy dlink again.

Just go to Game, Makro etc. & buy one of those Ellies power supplies. They are about R70 & will work. Just make sure you buy the One Amp model & not the 500 Mili Amps one. It isn't just Dlink that sometimes suffers from power supply failures.

But what if the router it's self doesn't work.

Nothing is for sure, but 9/10 times it is the PSU that has died.

I do but the plug doesn't go in

Just watch it with those plugs. They are never standard. Sometimes the centre is negative and the outside positive, and others are the other way round. If you connect to a working device at the wrong polarity you will pop it for sure.

Turns out the plug/transformer was broken.

Ah wasn't able to find it had to go to Incredible Corruption and pay R130 but very happy now that it's working again.

Thanks your comment motivated me to have mine tested, turns out it was the cause.
