D-Link DSL 2750U Router not great

Its a terrible router. Afaik you can install openwrt on it, going to give that a go on the ones I have lying in a drawer at the office.

No problems per se, I would just like to install Gargoyle (http://www.gargoyle-router.com/), which is based on Open-WRT, but would prefer not to brick my router as it does work fine

Any experience with this?

Is this the latest firmware for the 2750u that is supplied from Telkom? I was led to believe that the Telkom routers are slightly different and require a different firmware. Just want to double check before potentially stuffing mine up...

Go for an Asus router. They support ddwrt tomato and have good wifi range on the most part. Get one more than R900 for something really worth while.
For more check out Linus tech tips or NCIXCom on YouTube. They have some reviews and tests of long range routers.

I have the dsl-2750u and it really is horrible. If someone stands in front of it, my ping rises and the bandwidth lowers... It's good for houses without walls I guess...

Have you noticed any improvements or added functionality? IOW, is it worth it? I don't really have any issues to speak of but I'd really like the ability to monitor bandwidth usage per connected device...

D-Link's problem is the DHCP server not passing on DNS servers to the client computers. Just specify them in your WLAN card config.

I use googles public servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

it doesn't offer anything new, just stability.

I am running 1.70 and it seems ok. I do have a wonky dsl link so I do lose sync 2-3 times a day

Is this intentional or a Bug? I'm Moving House on Saturday and Telkom will come install a new Line and hand me a new modem as well. So they said it will either be the NETGEAR DGN2200 N300 or D-LINK DSL-2750U.

Currently I have a Netgear N300 so I thought the D-LINK will be better as I've had the Netgear one for like 2 years... But since I'm using UnoDNS I need my DNS servers to be passed on to my Roku.

Well if I get the D-LINK I'll test it and confirm.

I have this router as well and I can confirm that it is horrible. It drops WiFi ever 5 or so min. As I write this I am in the market for a router/modem. Super frustrated right now. I upgraded the firmware, changed channels to no avail. I am not touching D-Link in the future.

It's ofcourse not intentional and not all their models have this issue but to be fair it's not always a hardware issue. Your router gets the DNS servers from your ISP and the router passes them on to your PC via DHCP but this doesn't always happen as intended either as a fault on the ISP side or your router. Manualy configuring DNS servers is generaly a good idea, in my experience using google's 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 is the most stable.

Great thing you let us know what your fix was. I have this unit (Telkom stock) with flashed latest dlink firmware. I love it. But then I also know how to setup a router (not like other users eariler in the thread).
