I am looking to buy a d3000 for my wife - who is a newbie but wants something more than a p&s. I have family who will be passing through Singapore in about a week.

Does anyone have experience of purchasing a camera n Singapore?
What custom duty will I pay to import the camera into SA?
Has anybody compared prices between SA and Singapore? I can purchase this camera with a 18-55 lens for approx. R5g's in SA.

I bought a canon 350D in Singapore (years ago). You will have to go along the red line when getting back. Or you could try hide it in your luggage, but its best just to declare it, if you decide to go green and take a chance you will save buckets, but its a risk and end of the day, is teh risk worth it?

yeah you will save some bux, but you will have no warranty here as it is a grey import. So consider warranty.

Sorry useless info, but Singapore on the whole is not as cheap as it used to be.

Be careful.
They can spot a tourist from a mile away......

Look at the deals here first. Find out about warranty T&Cs..
There was a special for R6999 at Makro for a D3000 + 18-55 VR Kit Lens + 55-200mm VR Lens.
Very good value.

Myself, I bought the D3000 + 18-55 non-VR for R4899. VERY happy with it.
I'm saving for an awesome telescopic lens though.

:)
