D600 just not up to scratch

well what phone u get really depends on what u have and what u want.

For example if u have a PSP u not going to play games on ure phone or watch movies on ure phone for that matter.

If u have an ipod ure not going to be to peturbed if it doesnt have enough space to hold a 100 songs.

Me personally, i only buy phones that take memory sticks, and with good camera, and the top notch screen. You see i dont have a digiotal camera so i use my phone and thus i want the best quality. I dont care if my phone can run smartmovie player, and run .avi's if i want i can watch it on my PSP on a 3X as big screen, and 10X as clear, and no stutter. I couldn't care if my phone can emulate game roms. I do like to have a phone that plays Mp3's, and has a clear outer speaker, but i dont need thousands of Mp3's on my phone.

I don't really need office functionality, like opening docs and so forth.

All i want is a 3Mp camera with a nice sized screen with a gig of memory, and that it actuall fits in my pocket(like K750i, style). Me personally, nearly all the new nokias are like bricks, look like mini laptops more than phones, even the D600 is a bit big.

Oh well i have to wait for the new range to come out, wonder when that will be.

i will stay with my nokia thanks, waiting for the Nokia N70 to be released, its very nice
the N91 isnt bad at all either, 4gig storage, 2MP camera, Wi-fi, 3G, symbian OS... basicly everything i'd ever want in a phone! :D

You are the first person I've come across that uses your phone primarily for a camera! (excluding of course calling/SMSing). :)

I agree, the K750i is incredible when it comes to photos - I couldn't believe I'm looking at a cellphone photo at first! My 'brick' (:)) takes horrible photos compared to my Canon camera, although better than the previous one (6600).

I personally prefer one device in my pocket - if I have to carry a PSP for games/movies, an iPod for music, a Canon digital for photos and a cellphone (nevermind HOW SMALL), my pants won't stay up! :)

Im just saying, i used to buy phones all for functionality and blah blah blah, but i realised, u try and watch a movie on a cellphone screen, it is painfull.

So i dont need that really, playing the odd funny clip though is ok, all i use my phone for is calling, smsing, Music and Camera.

i used to think ah i want it all in one, but the problem is u sacrifice many things by putting everything in one small contraption. If it has to have all the features its usually a brick with something wrong with it.(excluding maybe K750I, but that doesn't really have everything). And if its stylish and slimline it usually has hardly any features. Oh and video recording on a phone, would be awesome if it wan't so ***. even the new ones with cif recording, on a computer it looks terrible and stuttery.

Its better in China with there Samsung phones with 7MP cameras. Maenwhile we are here thinking of our Uber 2Mp.

oh we do have a 3 Megapixel camera, the sharp 903, but have u seen that thing when open it could be used as a weapon. I mean when closed it is abt 1 and a half times bigger than a normal phone, then it doubles in size when open, its bigger than my PSP(in length) when open. but everyone raves abt its picture quality.

I personally have the V800, i bought it when i still cared abt functions(my K750I got stolen :( ) its pretty cool with all its extra things, but the size is not worth it, and it isn't really a chick magnet. : ).

Well i get a new phone next year Jan, so i will have to see.

Well, I use my phone only for the occasional clip as well (I need SmartMovie to make out anything - at least I can actually read subtitles this way), and hear what you're saying. Usually I prefer to read novels on my phone, something I believe one can pretty much only do with a smartphone. (I stand under correction).

Not a chick magnet, though, except the really weird ones... (engineers) :D

I find the size vs. features ratio of my phone acceptable, so I'm happy.

Sad sad thing to loose your phone - hopefully you had backups of your phonebook? Saved my life when my 6600 were stolen! Let us know what you get in Jan...

Yup i have everything on my computer, u can read any book on my SE phone as long as u transfer it to notepad and save it, and then to ure phone.

I have no clue what i will get in Jan, all phones seem to be old Tech, and the new phones aren't coming to SA very soon. Hmmmm, oh well, but one thing i don't understand, is like that PINK motorrola V3, all the girls i know are getting one. they like oh aww, its so cute and it matches my hand bag. They like and it can play MP3's. i just shudder and ask myself, how many Mp3's fit on 6 megs of memory.

Oh well this is what its like to be a 3rd world country : )

Says the guy with the PINK signature... :)

Agreed with the pink - luckily all the girls I know is quite anti-pink. Oh, and I wouldn't touch a Moto with a ten-feet pole, but thats just me.

di di dum

okay from what ive read so far, everyones trying to make the wrong comparison here, first of u can compare the k750i to the d500 because their similar feature wise.

u cant compare the 6680 with the d600. cos the 6680 is a symbian enabled phone (multitasking) and it has 3G, which the d600 doesnt have. in other words if u compare those 2 phones, the 6680 wins hands down... unfortunately

another thing, every problem that stNick spoke about with the d600 has been solved with the z500. from the ability to update a name straight from the sms, downto the msg alert tone. its the same interface just with alot of bugs ironed out.

but the z500 comes with its own problems, and theres tons. with 3g aloways on, the phone lasts one day. thats without use, with use ur lucky to go a few hours.

the video calling, is extremely laggy (voices and vid is delayed by about a second), u cant speak to someone like this, this was tested making a video call to a 6680, the recieve video quality is seriously lacking, while its sending quality is amazing, it actually has a setting while ure on the call to change the amount of movement u expect so it adjusts the compression codec accordingly (6680 doesnt have this)

the z500 is extemely soft, its pointless at times to even have a ringtone, if u dont feel the vibration then ull never hear the phone. even after hidden menu tweaking, its still really soft. being soft the sound quality is excellent, it actually plays bass, which i havent seen done properly on any other phone.

theres tons of other stuff, that i cant remember right now. but on the upside >>
it has an amazing scheduler, u can do pretty much anything with it, the most functional and detailed i have ever seen (sometimes can be overly critical if u wanna make a quick note)

voice call quality is excellent, u hear everything, best of all the loud speaker is really loud (louder than mp3 player) and actually can be used while driving effectively. most other phones have a loudspeaker as a window dressing feature, this loudspeaker actually works even u're in a noisy area.

theres alot of other stuff, but ive written too much and now im tired, anyway gl with the phone.
