Hi guys,

I just purchased a Nikon D90, with 18-55, 55-200, 50 f1.8, with bag, memory card, photoshop elements and training voucher for R6999 brand new.

I know it's a dated camera, it was a toss-up between the D90 with three lenses or the newer D5100 with two lenses for R1000 more. I chose the D90 for the feel and size, hope I made the right decision, my first DSLR camera, coming from a bridge FZ38.

Hope to be participating in here and learning from the pros :D :D

geez, is that what they go for these days? make me wanna

I paid more than double that when they hit the market.

It's a great camera though and I've been really impressed with mine

An oldie but a goodie. Sure it's lacking some of the newer tech but it's a capable camera in the right hands.

Damn thats a good price...
I bought the same one last year with only one 18-55 lens.

I love that camera.

Pfft, lacks tech... It has basically all the features you will need to take amazing photographs.

I just hope you use it on 'M'

Enjoy and post pics.

What I said was it lacks some of the newer tech and that's to be expected in a camera announced when, 2008?

Why would he have to use it on M? Are the other modes not up to scratch?

Do you buy a camera like that to use it on auto?

And sure it will lack a bit of the newer tech, but it is still a great piece of equipment.

Most of the time I shoot in aperture priority mode... When I'm not happy with the camera's metering in a specific situation, I turn it to M.

Thanks guys for the reassuring responses. I bought it at dion wired, they on special, probably last of that stock item, if anyone is interested.

The body features, size etc outweighed the newer sensor features on the D5100, for me that is.

I know I have a huge learning curve ahead, but I'm more than prepared to give it my best.

My camera is always on M, I do not do sport photography or anything that requires really fast changes.

Use a grey card to test the metering, it always works for me.

Is this your first SLR?

I love my D90.

Ive had it for a year or two and Ive never even thought of upgrading. Tho I don't use it every day, or think of myself as a "photographer".

Dang! That was a good deal.
Just the D90 body alone is R6999 at SACamera.

A camera like that? It's a consumer grade camera, it presumably has full auto mode, so it's not unheard of for people to use it. I certainly wouldn't look down on someone for using it.

More often than not using it on auto will not get you the desired effect you are looking for.

But like it was mentioned - Thread hijack -
