DA admits receiving Kebble Donations

Sorry - double post - I'm bad.

Interesting link here to the IEC site - the Party Funding page.

Here's an excerpt close to my heart:

Section 5(1)(b) of the Act says that the allocation may be used “for any purposes compatible with [the party’s] functioning as a political party in a modern democracy”, and that these include: ...
ensuring continuous, vital links between the people and organs of state (i.e. developing the interface between citizens and public administration)
Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of that - but now I'm off topic too.

It seems a strong case could be made for legislation making donations to political parties a matter of public record if over a certain amount, say R1000.00.

Idasa wants to do this.

They took the major parties to court in 2003(ish) to try to compel them to reveal their funding. Although Idasa lost the case, I think that the judge said there was merit in it and the ANC undertook the write legislation that would make all donations above a certain threshold public. We're obviuosly still waiting for that legislation, but its been only three years.

I think that only the ACDP was prepared to open their donations book to public scrutiny.

(from memory - so may be hazy on some details).

The double standards some political party's have are quite astounding.
I have never, nor will I ever, vote for the DA.
Who would you vote for then (taking it you are not an anc voter?) The Green Party??!

or - like tibby - the ACDP?

Personally would never vote for something with Christian in its name? african christian democratic party - uum, what is wrong with that picture?

:D

I personally could never vote for a party that supports abortion so that leaves me with the following choices.
ACDP
Freedom Front
Now, at my heart the whole boere volkstaat idea is a bit frikken idiotic so that leaves me with only one choice then, does'nt it? :)

MyADSL should start a political party wing and contest the next election. You only need about 10 000 - 15 000 votes to put someone in the national legislature.

Now how's that for off-topic!

My, dear that is not off-logic. Who knows all partys start small.Sit down AND THINK A MOMENT....can it be done?:)

I'm eating fizz pops, it's like there's a party in my mouth.

Geez talk about a thread going south :D...

I am hoping some political group will come to the party before the next election and actually be worthy of voting for... Else it's going to be a hard run in to the next election for me.

Sorry - got to pick on this immediately :D How can anybody not support abortion in 2006? Especially with the reality that woman will make their own decisions - and do what they feel is necessary and required. Who is anybody else to make that decision for them. And the option of clean competent medical services is always the better one.

:D Not babies - Zygotes - (as I saw someone mention the other day!) - The earlier the better.

(just shows how antiquated the world is - like woman having the vote in the first place - now we want to vote on their internal affairs!!?)

It's things like the abortion debate that made me resolve never to become a politician. Arguments both sides of the issue are very strong.

Rather stick to interest groups where you can pick your fights. :)

Thats quite strange, I've never heard a woman say "I've got a zygote on the way" or "She's gone to pop the zygote at the hospital, they think it's a boy" or "She's got a zygote in the oven"

As for the last part of your post

Been thinking about that abortion issue - an appropriate response.

Perhaps we need to invest more time understanding and solving why there are folk that need these abortions. If we get that problem solved, the abortion issue would disappear.

Geez. Nearly 24 hours to figure that one out. Guess that's why I prefer forums to chat rooms.
