The DA's unveiling of billboards on e-tolls was a destructive campaign, the ANC in Gauteng said on Thursday.

"It is clear that the Democratic Alliance and [its] inexperienced candidate [Mmusi] Maimane do not have policies and issues that can convince voters," African National Congress spokesman Dumisa Ntuli said in a statement.

"The DA uses e-tolling as a trump card to entice voters because they are divided on issues of leadership, equity and BBBEE [broad-based black economic empowerment]."

He said this type of campaigning would not deter voters from voting for the ANC, because it had done a lot for the people of Gauteng.

The Democratic Alliance unveiled a new billboard against e-tolls on the N3 highway in Germiston on Thursday.

The blue and white billboard states: "A vote for the DA is a vote against e-tolls."

DA spokesman Maimane said it formed part of an intensive campaign to mobilise Gauteng voters against the government which imposed e-tolls.

"We urge motorists to vote for the DA to put a stop to this daylight robbery," he said.

Earlier this year, the DA commissioned anti-e-toll billboards on the N3 and N1 highways, which derided ANC and its role in the e-tolling saga.

Nthuli said: "The DA is just pulling wool over people's eyes that the e-tolls are bad."

He said the ANC in Gauteng fully supported the e-tolling system because it would improve road infrastructure.

A billboard of Nkandla with a photoshopped Zuma with his thumbs up and his 25 wives behind him shouting 'Yaaaaaay e-tolls'. Or just a picture of Nkandla and the words 'EISH' across it.

What a typically schit Sapa article. They don't even bother to quote the "destructive" comment. They simply lead with it and then go a completely different direction.

I don't doubt that some moron from the ANC said this, (this coming from the party whose campaign centres on them accusing the DA of trying to bring back apartheid) but this kind of journalism is atrocious...

Poor gq/hdw/ks/cls. :(

I know whats more destructive between the act of sticking a billboard up or tying a e-toll noose around the neck of the economic hub of South Africa.

ANC please STFU
Get the rest of the country to sing along with you please? These stories pour in day after day and still that disgrace of a human being is president of a country on the continent where some believe all life started. The birthplace of humanity! And we're going backwards, backwards, backwards under the leadership of these 'people' for whom greed and self-preservation is priority no.1.

It's beyond self-preservation really .. more like destruction of everything else.

I'm just going to stockpile tyres and petrol to burn down the Gantries  , unless the DA win Gauteng :D

The ANC is no longer relevant. Who cares what they say?

You may not care, but their opinion still influences you directly, so I wouldn't call them irrelevant at all. They're just corrupt imbeciles, in general, so their relevancy actually becomes more of a concern imo...

ANC itself is a destructive party. DA is just keeping it real.

I'm hoping DA would be able to scrap the e-tolls should they win.

Their decline has been accelerated is the point.

Pity the DA cannot think of some equally excellent billboards for the Western Cape, to thwart the inane, thoughtless comments that Tony Ehrenrich makes. He is truly an embarrassment to the ANC, along with Marius Fransman

Tony Ehrenrich's real name is MT Wessels.

cANCer you are a self destruct model and the billboards are just informing the people of this suffering country as to why we all suffering.

The problem is most people that vote for the ANC are not directly affected by etolls, they most likely don't own a car.

Yes, I know the cost of living will go up, but they won't make that direct connection.

What we need to happen shortly before the elections, people must give their employees a pay cut. Pay your domestic a bit less, cut a few jobs, etc and blame the costs of etolls.

That way the people that usually blindly vote ANC will go to the polls resenting etolls, and because you explained that etolls were brought to them by the ANC, one can hope that they will resent the ANC too.

You can always give them a raise just after the elections again, the point is to have them feel the direct impact of etolls.

The ANC's statement that unless people vote for them, the boer oppressors would rule again was a destructive campaign, the DA said in Gauteng said on Thursday.

"It is clear that the ANC and [its] inexperienced candidate Malusi Gigaba do not have policies and issues that can convince voters"

"The ANC uses racial polarization as a trump card to entice voters because they are united on issues of corruption, service delivery failure and nepotism.

He said the ANC in Gauteng fully supported the e-tolling system because it would line their pockets and fill their troughs.

Fixed. This is quite fun actually.
