Mayor bliksemed in Blikkiesdorp
Nov 19, 2009 11:37 AM | By Sapa

Cape Town mayor Dan Plato got a smack in the face during a visit to the Blikkiesdorp relocation camp this week, the Cape Times reports.

It said the incident took place during a walkabout by the mayor yesterday, in which residents also swore at him and branded him a liar.

In one angry confrontation, Plato was smacked by an incensed woman as his bodyguards intervened to get her away from him.

Blikkiesdorp, named for its corrugated iron housing, is being used to house families who had squatted for almost two years on the pavement in Symphony Way, Delft.

They had been evicted from newly-built houses in the N2 Gateway project that they had tried to claim.
sauce. :D

He should apply for VIP protection, he obviously qualifies...

The people put him there... if another attacks him... that person should be sent to jail for at least 6 months... for even a klap
How else will a mayor walk around and converse with the cities people freely again
Her moment of joy or frustration will certainly cost other people the opportunity... eish

Despite what the mayor thinks, he's not above the law. In fact he's a public servant. Once they get to that level, the arrogance takes over and they deem it far beneath them to speak to people or even respond to phone calls or e-mail. This is why he gets a negative reaction from ratepayers. I would take him to task if he shows his face. He's called a meeting for residents, but he's picked a coloured area to do it.
