DA officially suspends Helen Zille

The Democratic Alliance has officially suspended former leader and Western Cape premier Helen Zille from all party activities until her disciplinary hearing has concluded.

The DA can do without Zille and Maimane. Zille had her time and got the part into the right position where it could really take on the ANC; Maimane is a mistake and the DA would do well in seriously considering the likes of Solly Msimanga to take up the reins.

I for one hope this is the time where voters start to be come educated rather than principled when backing a political party. The DA is all but turned into a mild version of the ANC. Sure 2019 is looming and the ANC needs to be worried but only if the DA rids itself from the Maimane leadership and refocuses their strategy. If not I fear the middle-class will do what the lower-class did in 2016 and simply take election day off.

That's a fantasy, Maimane's hegemony in the DA and SA politics is just starting.

In SA, with the large poor and under-educated voter base that we have, ANC lite is the way to go if you want to get in the game.
The job of the DA isn't to be on the sidelines and influence the governing party. It is supposed to become the governing party.

I'd be OK with them being the ANC, only better at administration, less corrupt actually being able to balance a budget and focusing more on job creation. It's no use having the lofty, perfect ideals, but it not aligning with what 75% of the population wants.

Zille has made the DA what it is today. Without her it may well have been another 2-5%'er party. It sad that she is being ousted, but she is losing it. The DA has so often made statements that anyone with an IQ above 100 can see will offend a large part of the population, or can be twisted by the opposition and turned into a rallying cry. Does she tweet when she's drunk? Or is she going senile?
