In another Obama type election campaign move, IMO, the DA is now asking for money from ordinary citizens, so to the guys who have been in such support for the DA, time you put your money where your mouths are. :p

As for the article, it so misleading it is not funny.

After laying out her grand design for the future - which culminates in taking power in 2014 - she said: "We also need massive resources to beat the ANC. Unlike the ANC, we cannot rely on state funding (of which the ANC receives 75%). We cannot, nor would we, benefit from the kickbacks from big business that the ANC receives through BEE deals.

The DA, as well as every other party in parliament receives state funding. In proportion to representation. And as for not getting money from big business, it is not becuase of the great morals they have, its becuase they did not want to give them that much. They approach big business like any other.

And to demonstrate their hypocracy, they ask for money on hand:
“Just the other day we had (DA leader) Helen Zille in our offices requesting funding. So there is nothing wrong with business supporting our country’s constitutional democracy and its electoral processes.”

And on the other hand they tell the ANC to give money back that they received, from the same company THEY went to go ask money from:

The Democratic Alliance challenges the ANC to demonstrate its sound financial ethics by distancing itself from Gumede and returning the money he donated to him until he is able to clear his name. It would be morally reprehensible for the ANC to run its election campaign with tainted funding.

The more the elections come closer, the more political parties forget what they have done, and lie to us.

There's a very important word in the DA's statement which you appear to have missed - even though you highlighted it.

It starts with a "k"...

Sox: have you ever done business with government? We lost a R250m tender with a certain Metro since, unlike the business awarded, we held our high ground and refused to give kick backs.

The amount of kickbacks in government (to ANC officials) for awarding tenders is a multi-billion Rand business in itself!

The ANC corrupt  You must be mistaken.

Yes I do business with goverment, and have yet to come across a situation where we get asked for kickbacks, and one could say it happens above my head, but we are a listed company and we report our figures.

And if YOU have come across this, why have YOU not reported it? Or are you just speculating?

Not that I'm saying it does not happen, just that I've never come across it. And shame on those that have and not reported it.

Divert discussion much...?;)
