Pierre Nel, the Democratic Alliance (DA) town councillor who refused to apologise to provincial DA leadership for bringing a motion to have Oudtshoorn's ID mayor removed for corruption and maladministration, has been voted out as Speaker.

In an impassioned speech prior to the DA motion to remove him on Friday, Nel berated the DA disciplinary committee for summoning him without presenting formal charges and then demanding that he plead guilty or not guilty.

Hmm. Bit unfair. Seems the DA does occasionally adopt the same policies as our esteemed leaders.

Sounds to me like this is a discipline matter. He stands against corruption etc, but is choosing methods outside of party procedure to counter it. It shows the DA is a party of principle.

It shows they're a party of procedure rather than principle. To be fair, when the ANC does the same thing they get lambasted. It's still just as wrong. Standing against corruption is the right thing no matter whose candidate it is or what forum you use.

I salute leitmotif ! whistle blowers on corruption should never be gagged no matter how much the party stands to loose.
