DA MPs walked out when the so-called "Nkandlagate" report was tabled in a joint standing committee of intelligence (JSCI) meeting, party leader Lindiwe Mazibuko said on Thursday.

This happened after the committee received the report on the R200 million upgrade of President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla homestead behind closed doors on Wednesday.

"The Democratic Alliance has long held that the JSCI is not the appropriate committee to deal with the Nkandlagate report and that it should be redacted," Mazibuko said.

"Parts concerning the costs and possible corruption relating to this upgrade should be dealt with by the Portfolio Committee of Public Works, an open and transparent committee."

The tabling of the report in a JSCI meeting, which is always closed to the public, was a "clear attempt to bury and conceal its contents".

DA MPs were refusing to participate in the JSCI's processing of the classified report.

The party was seeking legal opinion on how it could force the public works department to make the report a public document.

"The opinion will determine whether or not his [Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi] refusal has any basis in law," Mazibuko said.

"If we accept this bogus process, it has the potential to affect other reports on this matter, like the report from Public Protector, which is due to be released soon," she said.

not sure the intelligence quota changed much when they walked out - although saying that is likely to get me in trouble

the reality is that they had no choice but not to participate in such an abomination as those proceedings are

The DA should get back in line and STOP been such a cry baby. Live with it.

Johannesburg - Midvaal municipality will get a new mayor this week, the DA said on Thursday.

Bongani Baloyi would be sworn in at the Midvaal Council Chambers on Friday evening, the DA said in a statement.

The ANC called Baloyi's appointment a disgrace.

"The public protector's report revealed that the DA-controlled Midvaal municipality was very corrupt and has an incompetent administration," ANC Gauteng spokesperson Dumisa Ntuli said.

It was disgraceful that the new mayor would take over a "corrupt municipality".

"The appointment of the new mayor... is window-dressing and a cruel strategy of the DA to parade black people in order to win support," Ntuli said.

Boohoo, mommeeee !!

how does DA politicking tactics cause corruption to be exposed?
the DA does not walk out whenever there are shenanigans in Parliament. They have supported - and in fact initiated - several resolutions and bills that have eroded democracy or encouraged corruption.

*yawn*

^many of our politicians do that when they supposed to be working as well

While others take to insulting the electorate

Walking out of these things doesn't seem to be very effective for the DA. ANC will do what ever the hell they want regardless if the DA is or is not present.

And the legal action will be delayed for at least 5 years (note the spy tapes saga...) before they come to a point where the ANC just ignore the court orders.

I'm beginning to believe the ANC will never give up power, even if fairly voted out. Matter of fact, wouldn't surprise me if they are already plotting to ban other political parties.

well first prize goes to floor crossing

How does one resolution now equate to several? Bear in mind floor crossing is a legitimate practice in many modern democracies, unfortunately when corruption plays a part it does erode democracy - much like any event in a democracy involving corruption.

Yeah, you will learn that Paul cant let go of stuff that happened over a decade ago under different leadership. He is stuck in the past. As you can see by phaktza, most of us yawn at his comments and move on.
