The Democratic Alliance wants to double the child support grant if it gets into government next year.

Its leader‚ Mmusi Maimane‚ said the amount should be R800 to be sufficient to raise a child and fight malnutrition.

He was addressing the media in Tshwane about the party's proposed resolutions ahead of this weekend's elective conference.

"I think it is criminal in South Africa that one in four children die every day thanks to malnutrition. So whatever the social assistance package you put forward to South Africans‚ invariably does not address the question of malnutrition‚" said Maimane.

Would also help if people did not have kids they cannot afford to support, you like shifting that burden onto other people which is in no way fair.

Increase the grant along with forced sterilisations.
Not really, but yeah - people with 5 kids who can hardly afford one...eish.

at least,

been around dropping stuff off at welfare places, overcrowded, corruption and dodgy old dudes hanging around at some. poor kids look at you with shame and desperation.

then others like this muslim lady in the southern suburbs, very religious, looks after a houseful of kids of different ethnic backgrounds. 1 kid got accepted to uni for doing extremely well another looks to be on their way, others are young. all very well mannered. the lady gets R400 per month per child, she stops receiving R400 as soon as the child turns 18. she relies on good will to keep her going and its worked so far, she thanks her faith for that.

i take my hat off to this lady, great respect.

it is ****ing disgusting and insulting to have things like the government using the children as an excuse to do anything when all they give them are scraps.

Deadbeat parents would love this; more money to do their nails, hair and get lit off cheap alcohol. (R800 x no. of kids) = jackpot.

yeah, that would help to prevent it.

but that has happened and now you have this to deal with in front of you.


and if you are going to assist the kids in the first place, do it properly ffs. or drop them down the gorge. its like a breeding ground for miscreants in most cases.
 
Seriously who will pay this

Already about 65 percent of my salary goes into taxes. What this will cause is more people will have kids just to claim the allowance. 4x800 isnt bad. And school and medical all free. Seriously?

I wont be voting DA. They want to hike Cape Town water pricing 27% and put an extra fuel levy for Cape Town to cover a salary shortfall not to fix roads. And then more and more for welfare. But what do i get for paying soo much tax? No benefits really.

So maybe best to pack bags and move elsewhere. For the same benefits europeans or australians get free healthcare, free schooling and discount universities. We get none of these.

If you wonder how it will work look at how the europeans are upset at the turks having lots of kids in germany then living purely off wellfare.

And I think it is criminal for people to have children in the same number that eggs gets packaged, that know they cannot support those kids or give them a quality life. OK, double it .... FOR PEOPLE THAT DONT BREED WHEN THEY CANT AFFORD IT! :mad:

Double is a good start.

I just think all the public services should get paid better then we may not have as much laxy dazy bull**** and maybe less corruption and maybe more care for the citizens who need services.

... teachers, security, police, firemen, the pensioners grant should be considered also- 1350 or whatever it is now is insane.

All that money that was used for buying airplanes and other stuff we know of.
