Daft Punk are done

I really liked their music, but not too many people I know did. There are people who should know who they are but don’t know who they are. Personally, I don’t believe that the electronic scene is big, or even relevant, in SA. People who like electronic liked the duo but didn’t necessarily like their music. Many who didn’t grew up or experienced the music scene in the 90s and early 20s have no clue.

They have a huge presence in the electronic scene overseas and is really popular in Europe.

I guess now, their place will be in mentorship and production. This 'Epilogue' came planned.

I thought I was the only one. Their music was always in the realm of meh...

They did impress me with their film scores though:

Their music by large relied on visual expression and stimulation. Deadmau5 does pretty much the same.

Electronic dance music is repetitive sequencing/rhythms which are layered. DP did it by layering electronic house music with various music genres. It is artistic which is not in everyone’s taste. Synthwave is exactly this, layered sequencing and rhythms, and why some subgenres worked and others dissipated like what was known as chillwave. What may be meh to you is kinda retropop.

The scores they made departed a bit as it didn't rely on the house elements, but more symphony which I believe they also applied to the album which introduced them to a larger market, Random Access Memories which was widely recognised and awarded.

.....who?

This repetitive muzak is... popular somehow?

Saw them live. Nah nah na naaaah naaaa!

Joel had something going for a while.

I've been to his live show in 2011. Liked many of his tracks much better than the edm bro's environment starting around that time. Daft Punk is way older and their stuff never really attracted me. Melodically and rhythmically.

No shyte. We just called it techno or house if there's a snare on every second beat.

Yeah sure. Still not my vibe. And I like weird stuff like Martin Stimming and Booka Shade.

All I am getting at is that there is much more value in this live, having the audiovisual experience, than only listening to it.

Booka Shade

Yeah but maybe you shouldn't need that. The weird thing is most peoples home theatre systems will be way better at delivering the audio than some crazy line array setup at a concert where the stereo width is narrowed and frequency response is cruddy because it has to cater for a field of people.

The first mau5 song I heard was "not exactly" and Spiro even spelled his name wrong on progression. I looked him up and found the deadmau5 song "Strobe"... And bought the album. Which I still jam to sometimes.

This was more than 10 years ago. People had longer attention spans back then.

But yeah the original stage light show for this was pretty epic at the time. I'd just rather watch it with a beer in my hand at home. (And for **** sakes they need to remaster that DVD and replace the ambient mic) Better than a crowd of sweaty drunk Justin Bieber lookalike EDM bros.
