Dagga valued at R500k seized in Gauteng raid

Pretoria - Tshwane Metro Police Department officers chalked up a significant bust when they seized dagga with an estimated street value of over R500 000 on Sunday.

TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said policemen had reacted to a tip off and descended on a house in Temba, Hammanskraal.

“Upon arrival in the house, they found five men. The five assured officers that they don’t sell any drugs and that the officers will not find anything,” he said.

“The officers thoroughly searched the house and the yard. They proved the five suspects wrong when they started digging the garden and found 15 plastic bags and one very large plastic bag all containing dagga,” Mahamba added.

He said the illicit find had a street value of R512 500 and weighed 20.5kg.

Nearly R6 000 in cash was also seized.

The five suspects were arrested and detained at Temba police station and will appear in court soon.

The dagga and money was also booked in as evidence.

Experience shows that arresting the bosses produces no benefits. Best case their territory is peacefully absorbed or an underling takes over. Worst case the contenders kill each other and civilians to determine who takes over. The worst case is more likely.
