That screw holding the tail light in place? That's probably all that's shared.
It is more the knowledge gained that is useful. It is the testing of components in real-world extremes. Attributes of shock absorbers (for e.g.) in rallies will filter down to street cars. Navigation, lubricants, engines, electrics, etc. The limitations and reliability of car makes (backup vehicles are also part of the equation). Not to mention the status and good PR that accrues to high performing brand names.
