My dog somehow managed to get hold my of my iBurst modem (old white one) and chewed on the top of the antenna. The top "ball" is now standing to one side and hanging onto the rest of the antenna by a plastic thread.

I was wondering whether this could in any way be a safety risk with regards to radio waves or whatever, or does the plastic not serve any shielding function of any sort?

Thanks

Safety wise it won't make any difference, and if it's still giving you full signal strength then don't worry about it.

Easy way - put a raw, unboiled egg next to it... if the egg starts to get done...

Otherwise, just wrap it up neatly in insulating tape and don't worry :D

hehe, you've got alot more things to be worried about than your iburst modem.

anyways ya the plastic is just to keep it in one piece and make it look pretty.

Why should it go any faster with a broken antenna, or do you mean it's now slower than it was before the dog got hold of it?
