My brothers PS3 Phat 40GB died a few weeks ago - and he just bought a slim as a replacement.

I'm sure I can still get a bit of money for it (HDD, control, Blu Ray drive or even repair the issue) - so thought of putting it on BoB at R1.00 and see what happens.

Alternativly - how much could I sell this for?

where you situated ? jhb ? cpt ? i take for R400 :D

I think it's yellow light of death ; turns off after 3 beeps ... unusable :/

Overheating perhaps? *shrug*

I don't think 40GB came a vibrating control :/

See what happens when you put it in to recovery mode.

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

Thanks ponder!

Will give that a go!

@MegasXLR That's why I came here - to get a decent firm price ;)

Take out HDD. Connect to SATA on PC. Format Drive. Put back in PS3 and start it up.

That's assuming a corrupt HDD is the issue?

How often is YLOD a hardware issue?

I know people are always looking for replacement blue ray lasers and drives. You could perhaps make more cash by selling items separately
