Damaged Seacom cables have been repaired

So they claimed that Azure downtime was caused by this.

However, that downtime was fixed the same day, and this cable was only fixed now.
And the services that went down, were local services.

So the real issue was actually with Azure data center or their peering. The cable break just revealed their flawed setup.

The traffic might be local but it needs to get there first. I don;t think all these big content providers have capacity on all the cables. The American companies like using their own companies for services like Cogent Co which only provides JHB to LON on a few cables. Once the cable breaks hit WACS and EASSy Cogent was very bad.

Once these content providers lose most of their inbound transit, they just withdraw prefixes in most cases and networks need to figure out themselves how they can get the traffic from EU.
