Need some help....

Here is the scenario...

We have FTP site setup on Server2003.

About 200 clients can connect to the FTP server via unique logins per client. Setup as Mixed Mode (Pass & Active)

Out of everyone, one client is having issues. He logs in fine with his unique username & pass, as soon as he want to browse the directories or "ls" in DOS he gets 425 Unable to open the data connection

FTP client such as CuteFTP/ FileZilla/ FireFTP/LinuxFTP client/DOS command prompt everything have been tried.

All the other clients are connecting fine, expect him. OS Firewalls have been disables, ports had been check, chopped and change, nada... zero... zilch.

Any other advice? Remember, all other clients are connecting fine, so I doubt it is something server side.

Feedback would be fantastic!

Thx

Client is blocked on his side on port 20 out methinks.
If I remember correctly, if FTP is not in passive mode, then it also uses another port, and I think it's port 20.
Could be 22 though ... google : difference between passive and active ftp.

Edit : (I'm busy downloading unix updates ... on a gprs connection ... eeek ... so i cannot even google properly)
Edit : I checked my \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\services file .. port 20 is listed as ftp data.

It sounds a lot like the initial exchange is ok, becasue he can log in, and that happens over port 21, but somehow when he needs to browse, data can't come through on port 20.

You've disabled OS firewall, so it's not that.

This sounds like a tricky one. Let us know if you fix it.

Got it working eventually,

Was running CerberusFTP. Make changes to the Root folder of the User Manager in CerberusFTP, saved, stopped & restarted the Cerberus Service.

WEIRD....

But working :D

@ Akai

Glad to hear that. I was under the presumption it was the ftp server built into IIS, but oh well. Sometimes the old adage of restarting Windows is the best bet. In your case, just the particular service lol.
