Finally resolved my ADSL connection problem...all due to the phone filter which I didn't have!!! DOH!! Weird thing was my ADSL connection would work 3-4 days out of the week, thus I wasn't really troubled since I could get my emails at work.

Make sure each phone/fax/pots modem/alarm system runs through a filter. Everything but the ADSL router needs one. Finally resolved my ADSL connection problem...all due to the phone filter which I didn't have!!! DOH!! From what I can tell the interference would make your adsl connection unstable. http://www.epanorama.net/documents/telecom/adsl_filter.htmlIf I were to plug my phone into the line without one, What effect would it have?

The line from the exchange to your premises carries direct current to power the telephone, low frequency alternating current to ring the telephone, voice frequency conversation signals, and high frequency DSL signals. The DSL signals are up to ten times the voltage of voice and use much higher frequencies than ordinary telecommunications devices (telephones, fax machines, modems, alarm systems, etc). The filter protects these devices from the DSL signals.
