This is really getting ridiculous. Every time I call these bastards, it's something new.:mad:

I'm attempting to get 2 lines installed in my apartment in Illovo.

I applied over a month ago, they've already sent me an invoice! Someone finally called and arrived today to tell me there is no cable running from the complex box to my apartment and there is nothing THEY can do about it? I HAVE TO RUN A CABLE! WTF? Are these people on crack or what? What kind of company is this?

I mean, in the US, you call the telephone company and an hour later there is someone installing the line! Customer doesn't need to do a thing! Now I gotta spend my Saturday running cables in the damn complex!

I'm going to shoot someone!

Glad you've vented dude. Woosaaa!

This is a crap situation to be in. I DO NOT envy you. Is there perhaps someone at your complex/body corp you can chat to to get this sorted out?

I'm going to chat with the caretaker lady in the morning... Even if they can sort it out, they're going to charge me, so I'll just get one of my technicians sleeping at the site to come and help me run the cable. That is beside the point, who ever heard of customers installing their own goddamn telephone lines!?

Or you could sacrifice yourself for the greater good of the MyBB community and sign one of those Neotel contracts & report back here about it.;)

That's not all.
Once you have installed that cable you will essentially be paying rent on your own cable at over R100 a month.

Not sure what the issues are here, but maybe new buildings, not saying yours is new, are perhaps required to put in the conduit pipes at the very least, probably with draw wires as well. Not trying to make excuses for Telkom, but it is difficult and may also look ugly if there are lots of cables running all over the show on big apartment blocks.
Seems you have the interconnecting boxes and conduits but there are no cables in them and probably no draw wires either.
You may need a Fishtape.

I was actually seriously considering that. Just one question, how the hell am I going to connect my fax machine to the neotel phone?

The conduit pipes are in, but there are no lines! So it either has to be re run (I went and got fish tape from one of my sites, which won't go through the damn conduit - I don't have the conduit map diagrams) or taken out across the roof and down to the box. (which I incidentally had a look at and it looks like Hiroshima...)

I have no idea why there are no lines in this building. Normally when a building is under construction, Telkom comes in with the wiring and we (developers) run the cables for them or their technicians/sub-contractors do it.

So why the hell didn't anyone put any in? Why does Telkom refuse to run the cable for me? (They better not even think about charging me for installation!)

This is simply a pain in the balls now.

I live in a complex on the west rand. One of my neighbours applied for a phone line from Telkom , and he got THE SAME ANSWER! I was amazed........They wanted him to run his own cable to some point...... Ubelievable!

To make this worse........this guy WORKS for Telkom ....... He is some manager in their IT dept....... Needless to say, he STILL doesnt have a phone line..... Its been about 6 months now......

Good luck trying to sort it out
