Dark spot on image

Hello,

Since this afternoon I have noticed a dark spot in the same position on my lcd screen as well as on photos.

I've done some googling, aparently this can be a result of dust getting on the sensor / lense?

But this camera is not even 2 weeks old.

Sony Cybershot HX9V

What can I do to remedy this problem?
Is it covered by my warranty?

I would take it back, and say its there from the start

Looks like dust or something to me.

I'm guessing you've done the obvious and checked the lens itself?

Yes I have, its spotless.

Is it safe to shine an LED light into the camera lense to get a better look?

An LED light won't cause problems with the sensor, so have a look. I don't think you'll see much there. I'd take it back and have them take photos in the store to prove it to themselves. If it isn't a spot or mark on the outside of the lens, then it is clearly a factory fault and covered for replacement.

It could definitely be a default - I had the same experience. Hope you find out what the cause is.

They exchanged my camera with a new (seemingly better) camera.

I'm very happy with the result.
