There's honestly not a big difference between 2005 and 2008. Most of the stuff in the SDK's that can be installed into 2005. WPF, WCF, Silverlight, etc, are all available as seperate downloads for 2005.

The only real difference in 2008 is .Net 3.0 & 3.5, with 2005 you only have 2.0

Well, seeing as ASP.NET MVC is ASP.NET 3.5 only, it should be a good enough motivation. :p

Luckily I don't pay the bills, 2008, 2005 , it's all the same price to me :)

I'm also maintaining old code, so probably not the best judge of what's new in 2008. If you can convince the boss to get 2008, then go for it.
