How can I tell if an existing data bundle has expired? I *think* the data bundle on one of my mtn sim cards should have expired by now, but I'm not really sure, and I don't want to load airtime and then find that I can't buy a bundle for another couple of days!

*141# tells me that I have 0 airtime, but doesn't mention data at all - does that mean that the bundle has expired?

or dial 555 and query your data bundles. It should also not report anything.

it means your data has been used up, but not necessarily that the 30 day window has. if it has not, you won't be able to load another bundle, even if you've used up all the data in your current bundle. dialing 141 and checking other balances should tell you when it expires.

of course, nothing stopping you from getting another sim and loading a bundle on there... ;)

Yeah, I'm already alternating between two sims :-)

My next problem is - how do I figure out what the cell number is for a sim? I can't SMS myself, since I don't have any credit, and I can't send a callme since no-one else I know is on MTN.

I need the number to do a recharge via an atm - I want a 100MB bundle, and buying voucher combos didn't work for me so well last time.

i assume you don't have a second cell phone lying around?
i would normally just give myself a missed call on my other phone...

I didn't think it would let me even get that far, if I don't have any airtime whatsoever. I'll give it a try with a friend's phone tomorrow, though.

Getting number

Try this:

Call your voicemail by dialling 100 or 105 (this is a free call).

Select the option to change your personal greeting (should be option 3).

Select the option to listen to your current greeting (option 1?).

The greeting will read your number back to you if you have not personalised it before. If you did, erase the personal greeting to get it back to the default where the number is read out.
