In MTN's Basic Data Tariff & Data Bundles terms and conditions page, it is stated :

Data bundles on MyChoice TopUp price plans will be available as from 11 August 2005.
It is not stated how, one can purchase data bundles on MyChoice TopUp.

I phoned 141 IVR, but there is not an option to load data bundles.

Should I therefore have to contact my MTN service provider to load a data bundle?

Yes, please contact your service provider. The data bundles for MyChoice TopUp are handled as a contract portion of your account, not a prepaid portion. Your SP should provision the bundle on your behalf and bill you at the end of the month.

Now, I can only hope the SP agent you talk to is up to date on this new offering!

Will the bundle be deducted from ur R75 of credit or will they just bill u on ur account R10 for the 10 meg bundle?

On my MyChoice75 contracts it's an additional amount added on; your R75 can only be used for calls and GPRS usage outside the bundle.

Converting from MyChoice Topup to PAYUG

It seems to me that one it a bit limited with MyChoice TopUp (as with MyChoice 75). I am currently on MyChoice TopUp but are not in a 24-month contract. I was thinking to stop the MyChoice TopUp and go onto prepaid.

Does anybody know if I will be able to retain my phone number? (My service provider is MTN-SP)

Zaphod. I am afraid this cannot be done at the moment. We are reviewing the rules around this.

Why am I not surprised ?

Today I phoned 808 "customer service" centre in the attempt to load a 100 MB data bundle on my Mychoice TopUp.

The guy on the other side told me it is not possible on MyChoiceTopUp. He told me there is not an option like that on their system. I told him that it is available from the 11th of August according to MTN's website .

He transferred the call to the "help desk". Over there I did not get much joy either. The guy said I should phone 141. I told him that 141 does not give me an option to load a data bundle !!!

I found that the service at MTN call centre is pathetic !!!!! Also, all the e-mails which I posted on the MTN website at the "Help, Contact Us" link just disappeared into a big black hole in cyberspace !!!!!

The only replies that I do get on my MTN requests are on this forum from MTNBroadband. Thank you for that MTNbb, but I think that MTN should seriously make sure that their people is up to date with the latest offerings.

I am still without a data bundle on MyChoice TopUp.

Update

Later yesterday (19-08-2005), I was able to load a 100 MB data bundle on MyChoice TopUp. This was after my struggle (see previous post) .
I just got through to a guy who at least knew what was going on. :)

I asked him when does the data bundle expire. He told me at the end of the billing cycle. My billing cycle is starts on the 20th of each month. I was then told that I would receive a small pro-rata bundle for the 19th of August, and my new bundle would start on the 20th (start of the new billing cycle).

However, last night (on the 19th) when *141# reported that I had 100MB left on my bundle (not the pro-rata portion that I expected). I accessed the Internet for a short while and dialled *141# again. It reported that I have 99.7 MB left on my bundle.

This morning (the 20th and the start of my new billing cycle), *141# reported that I have 100 MB left on my bundle.

My question is this:

  • Did I receive a full 100 MB bundle on the 19th, of which I only used 300kB ?
  • Will I be billed for a full 100 MB bundle, for the previous billing cycle?

I would expect a pro-rata billing because this is stated in the GPRS terms and conditions:

Monthly subscription charges, as well as the data credit (volume) are pro-rated for a portion of the customer’s billing cycle month.
