Data centres ditching Eskom

Some of the biggest challenges faced in the cloud and hosting sector are energy costs and ensuring constant electricity supply, with many data centre providers in the country ditching Eskom for more reliable power sources.

Despite the continued suspension of load-shedding since 26 March this year, Eskom still implements load reduction in many parts of the country, and some areas are prone to unplanned power outages.

Just another ANC failure...

This is actually becoming epic how everyone just bypass Eskom because of their failures. Well done ANC keep up the crap work. Hopefully you will be bypassed as well soon enough.

They ditching Eskom because not 3 months ago they said Data centers are the cause of no power. get your facts straight ya morons

And rightly so, Eskom has nothing to offer and being connected to their grid means you paying for nothing with the new so called 'connection" fees. Durban is the latest on the bandwagon looking for money for nothing. Luckily I am now off grid and used alterations as a reason to get the municipality to remove their equipment. They will not see a penny from me, i will no longer pay the governments protection fees. Let them do their worst.

What kak is this?

Eskom wants 36% / 43.55% (metro) increase for 2025.
Solar power already cheaper than Eskom.
Use Solar during day.
Use Eskom at night.

Add some Tesla MegaPacks.
Use Eskom when bad weather.
Battery helps avoid expensive peak TOU charges.

Good business decision.
