I am sure Vodacom will be taking a fat slice.
Local or international?.
International.
Not much choice then is there? SAT3 run by Telkom, otherwise it's satellite with all its horrible latencies and weather sensitivities. Neotel do have access to the landing station, so in theory you could buy from them, but the price I believe is still governed by the consortium that owns the cable.
Why does Vodacom not have access to the landing station?
Something to do with the "sensitivity" of equipment and ensuring Telkom's monopoly?
But if Neotel have access why not Vodacom![]()
It was a specific part of the mandate that Neotel be given rights. Poison Ivy has made some mention about how precious the landing station is in the past, but I don't have all the (red tape) details.

NeoGhost is partly owned by VSNL, and VSNL is a member of the SAT-3 Bandwidth Illuminati Consortium, and gained access to the SAT-3 landing station at Melkbosstrand on that basis, as well as the basis that NeoGhost [formerly SNOT] is supposedly the second national [fixed line] operator...basically Poison Ivy sat on Telkodemonopolies and had a brain fart until Telkodemonopolies allowed NeoGhost to have physical access to the landing station. But if Neotel have access why not Vodacom![]()

Some time back, NeoGhost went to great lengths to make sure that everyone knows that the cellular operators are purchasing capacity from NeoGhost - although I assume it was mostly for international voice calls. Can Vodacom buy data from Neotel?

IMO NeoGhost still has to prove itself, but the moment SEACOM is online, SAT-3 will start becoming a part of history that South Africans would prefer not to have to think about too much as it would remind them how much of their money ended up in Telkodemonopolies' back pocket and used by Poison Ivy to wipe her considerable rear.
