(Penny-wise) Noob here!
Data question.
Laptop: Huawei E220 - Vodacom 2GB @ R450/month (expired Nashua Mobile contract) & Mobile Partner s/w.
Handset: MTN Anytime 300 (Nashua Mobile contract appr 18 of 24months down).
Need to save every cent right now but do enjoy surfing the www from my laptop - A LOT! So I'm looking for a cheaper way to connect my laptop without losing too much functionality/speed. Am considering cancelling Vodacom 2GB contract and getting an MTN 2GB data bundle @ R389/month (and tether handset)?
According to GSM Arena this handset =
3G Network: HSDPA 900/2100
Data 3G: HSDPA, 3.6Mbps.
Can this work seamlessly? Using Bluetooth or USB? What s/w would I need on the laptop? Can the 2GB be hard capped? Don't want to rely entirely on service provider's input - have found them to be questionably knowledgable and rather unforthcoming with a fix!
Is pre-paid data/pay-as-you-go data an option? Don't want to swap sims - Can it be slapped onto my existing sim at reasonable data rates?
Only a temporary fix anyway. Going ADSL route at next possible opportunity and will probably get a Blackberry negating the need for a sim data plan (other than obviously BIS/BES).
Advice please?
Thanks in advance!
